Job Description

The Operations group is a collection of sub-departments which is responsible for everything after an account is opened or a trade occurs. The Operations group’s responsibilities include opening customer accounts, account maintenance, receiving and delivering money and securities to customers, and many more.

Hilltop Securities is currently looking for a Settlement Operations Specialist.  The Settlement department is responsible for the clearance and settlement of securities. This area receives and delivers physical securities as well as book-entry securities through the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation to and from broker/dealers and custodian banks. The Settlements group handles a wide variety of products for retail and institutional customers. Products include Corporate and Municipal Bonds, Common and Preferred Stock, Foreign Securities, and Government Issues. In addition to facilitating the settlement of securities from Broker to Broker, the settlement group also performs Institutional DVP and Prime Broker functions.

 

  • Under moderate to close supervision, performs routine or basic functions according to department and industry guidelines.
  • Perform daily settlement of Fed-Book eligible securities, including all aspects of preparing security instruction detail for transmission, tracking items closely intraday, and following up on fails to receive and deliver including reclaims and charges.
  • Coordinate collateral movement through the Fed Book platform for funding transactions as dictated by the Collateral Ops and Repo funding teams.
  • Monitor and resolve factor changes trailing settlement to ensure funds payment or collection promptly.
  • Monitor and resolve issues throughout the day to ensure successful settlement results.
  • Consistently review and process email requests at a high volume, including Service Center cases which have a service level agreement for timely resolution.
  • Consistently finish daily tasks and regular assigned responsibilities.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties assigned by supervisor or manager

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 3 plus years previous security industry experience (preferred).
  • Knowledge of basic security industry terminology and financial markets.
  • Strong Customer focus with effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and retain information while demonstrating solid decision-making abilities.
  • Organizational and computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail required.
  • Effective time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work neatly and accurately while exercising judgment, logic, integrity, and initiative.
  • Ability to work additional hours and/or flexible shift assignments when needed.
